What MonKey Does

MonKey is a sandboxed macOS menu bar utility distributed through the Mac App Store. It provides four core functions: keyboard layout autocorrection, text translation, grammar checking, and custom AI actions (AI Wizard). It uses macOS Accessibility permission to detect layout mismatches and correct text.

What Data MonKey Accesses

Keyboard Input

MonKey monitors keystrokes via macOS Accessibility to detect keyboard layout mismatches. This monitoring happens entirely on your Mac. Keystroke data is processed in memory and never saved to disk or sent anywhere.

Selected Text

When you trigger a translation, grammar check, or AI Wizard action, MonKey reads the currently selected text in the active application. This text is used only for the requested operation.

What Stays on Your Mac

Layout autocorrection is 100% offline — character mapping and dictionary lookup happen entirely on your Mac. Keystrokes are processed in memory and never saved or transmitted.

What Uses the Network

Translation and grammar checking use cloud AI for all users (Free: 2/day, PRO: unlimited). Text is sent only when you explicitly trigger a translation, grammar check, or AI Wizard action. No internet? MonKey automatically falls back to Apple Translation and macOS spellcheck on your device.

Cloud requests send text you explicitly select to our secure proxy for processing:

Learned Corrections

MonKey learns from corrections you accept to reduce false suggestions over time. This learning data (word pairs and frequency counts) is stored locally in the app's sandbox container and never transmitted.

Subscription & Payment

Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We never receive or store your payment details, billing address, or Apple ID. Apple's privacy policy governs all payment processing.

Analytics & Telemetry

MonKey does not include any analytics, tracking, crash reporting, or telemetry. We have no way of knowing how you use the app.

Local Data Storage

All app data is stored inside MonKey's sandbox container:

~/Library/Containers/com.pearproduction.MonKey/Data/Library/Application Support/

Nothing is synced to any cloud. Uninstalling the app from the App Store removes all sandboxed data automatically.
